Located 18 miles north of Atlanta, Marietta is one of Georgia’s most picturesque and vibrant cities. It is the largest city in Cobb County, and it is home to about 59,000 residents. Marietta was established in 1834. With historic charm and character, it’s one of the southeast’s most beloved cities. Marietta was settled in 1834, but it was inhabited long before then. Creek and Cherokee Indians were the first to call it home, and they set up the first formal settlements. The city later transformed into a resort destination for the wealthy, and it still has many original historic hotels and residences. The city’s historically strong economy dates back to 1850, when the neighboring city of Atlanta became the headquarters for the Western and Atlantic Railroad.
